OUR ORGANIZATION AT A GLANCE

 

Annai Veilankanni’s college of nursing was started in the academic year 2009-2010 and the school of nursing in 2005 is run by Annai Veilankanni’s educational and cultural society. This trust is formed and function over the devoted and honest direction of our Honourable  Chairman Dr.S.Devaraj, our Secretary Dr.D.Dev Anand and our  Director Dr.Johny Christopher.   Our College attempts to be an impartial, active and collaborative learning community that makes a difference to education and Human development through quality in teaching, scholarship, and service. Our team collegiality and cooperation is our strength to undertake many of our missions.
AVCON has been formally approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The college is affiliated to The TamilNadu Dr.MGR Medical University Chennai and has been recognized by Indian Nursing Council, Delhi, and Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives council. We are hereby proud to say that the college has grown in leaps and bounds. We are indeed proud to say that 6 successful batches of students have completed their courses. All the students have got placements after the completion of their course and many of the students have got placed inside the country as well in also abroad. Our college has made a good forward walk to appear in the progressive and modern face in the nursing arena.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

Our institution has always provided its students with a healthy and fairly competitive environment to help them grow in every sphere of activity, be it academics, sports, or any other extra-curricular role. We have given equal opportunities to all our students so that they realize their true potential and get ready to face the outer world once they complete their studies.
Students have also made commendable achievements in their academics. Most of our students got distinctions in various subjects. For the last academic year our B.Sc(N) with 100% pass percentage, and DGNM too with a 100% result.
The institution seeks to make a qualitative contribution to health care through training personnel who are dedicated to the healing ministry.

 

PLACEMENT

100%  placement done for all the final year candidates of B.Sc(N) and DGNM at well-reputed and topmost corporate hospitals with good salary packages. A campus interview was conducted and our students are placed at Apollo hospitals, Chettinad hospital, Child’s trust hospital, Vijaya hospital, etc…

VOLUNTARY ORGANISATION

 

Our institution has membership with various voluntary organizations including National Service Scheme, Youth Red Cross which were directed by able-handed faculties.

INSTITUTIONAL COMMITTEES

Various committees are functioning within our institution to look after many of the proceedings including the Staff welfare committee, Student welfare committee, Anti-ragging committee, Curricular committee, Health committee, Hostel welfare committee, Disciplinary committee, Environmental sanitation committee, Spiritual committee, Journal club, Sports committee, Library committee. The committees help the students to maintain professional modesty, update knowledge and unveil their talents in all aspects.

FACULTIES PAPER PUBLICATION AND ARTICLE PUBLISHED

Around 12 papers have been published by our faculties in both Index and non-indexed journals.

BIO-ETHICS

Our institution is one of the nodal centers. Nursing ethics are taught as a part of the curriculum, Institutional ethical committee has constituted, Research projects for our students project clearance is done by the ethical clearance committee, Faculty from institutional ethical committee undergo bio-ethics course organized by our Tamilnadu nursing council.

HEALTH CARE ACTIVITIES

  • All our B.Sc and DGNM students participated in the Historical event “ATTHI VARADR – Temple” health camp from 09.08.2019 to 18.08.19 at Kanchipuram
  • Free consultation and distribution of medicine in health camp organized by our Annai Veilankanni’s Hospitals under the direction of Dr.Johny Christopher, Managing Director, Annai Veilankanni’s Hospital.
  • COVID – 19 awareness program, Mass health education program, home visit, self-health group services at the community level in and around Perungalathur.
  • CORONA: our students distributed pamphlets issued by our Tamilnadu Government at nodal metro railway stations of our Chennai. Issued Masks to the police department, Perungalthur, our students demonstrated handwashing technique and the importance of social distancing.
  • Public awareness rallies on National, International health days.

ACADEMIC PLAN AND IMPLEMENTATION

  • Master Rotation plan has been planned for B.Sc(Nursing) & DGNM separately and it is been implemented.
  • Theory and clinical block is planned as a complete block. Nursing subjects are taken by our nursing faculty & Non-Nursing subjects are dealt with by external lecturers.

CLINICAL EXPERIENCES OF THE STUDENTS

  • Our students gain their clinical experience in Govt. Hospital, Chrompet and for the subjects of Foundations of Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing -I & II, Pediatric Nursing & Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing.
  • IMH, Kilpauk & Brahma psychiatric rehabilitation center for the subject Mental Health Nursing.
  • Kanchi kamakoti child’s trust hospital for child health nursing
  • Kamakshi memorial Hospital for super specialty in medical surgical nursing.

COMMUNITY FIELD EXPERIENCE

  • Nedungundram village has been adopted by our College to provide primary level care & to post our students to gain experience in Community Health Nursing.
  • Government PHC for community urban experience.

OBSERVATIONAL AND FIELD VISITS

  • Students were provided the opportunity to learn through different methods of teaching. Observational visits were arranged to gain knowledge by observation. We planned to go for field visits to different areas.
  • The III year B.SC (N) students visited *Day Care Centre *Mental Retardation Home *De-addiction Centre *Child Guidance Clinic during their Psychiatric posting
  • Our II Year B.SC (N) students visited *Avin Milk diary *Slaughter House *Old age Home as a part of their Community field visit.

CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

MEDICAL-SURGICAL NURSING DEPARTMENT

The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing provides courses related to adult nursing as well as advanced nursing practice within the framework of the curriculum.    The department provides student-centered teaching and learning in a conducive atmosphere for a hands-on experience that helps the students to gain confidence in their nursing knowledge, skills, and attitudinal practice. The faculty of the department focuses on the students’ knowledge, skills, and altitudinal acquisition to meet the demands of changing patient demographics, disease severity, and complexities in health care technologies.    The subject is well thought out and put across in second and third-year B.Sc. nursing and DGNM IIyr to cover the entire health system concerns logically. The course offers an opportunity for students to learn adult health problems including geriatrics to equip them with the understanding of providing comprehensive care.

  • Celebrated world aids day (01.12.2018) and world obesity day (26.11.2018) at Chrompet Government Hospitals
  • Our students organized an HIV awareness program.

OBG DEPARTMENT REPORT

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing takes pride in quality teaching. It provides courses in Obstetrical and Gynecological nursing with theoretical and practical elements to diploma and undergraduate students. We prepare our graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive maternal and child care.

PROGRAMMES / ACTIVITIES:

  • Antenatal – mass health awareness was organized by final year students with healthy diet preparations for the antenatal mothers and simulation activities at Chrompet Government hospitals.
  • Family planning propaganda is done by the final year students.
  • Breastfeeding week was celebrated during August from 1-7 with the theme Empower Parents, Enable Breast Feeding. The awareness program was carried out in Government Hospital, Chrompet by giving a health talk regarding breastfeeding.
  • Breast cancer awareness was conducted during February at Mirshahibpet Health Centre. The skit was performed by the students regarding the prevention of Breast Cancer. A health talk was given about Breast Self-Examination.

CHILD HEALTH NURSING DEPARTMENT

We prepare our graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive child care based on recent trends. It has concentrated on delivering evidence-based care to children and pushing the boundaries of research in children’s health. Working with the other departments, we also render inpatient care, innovative research, and education while promoting excellence in all areas that support children’s health.

PROGRAMMES / ACTIVITIES:

  • Our students participated in various activities like quizzes, poster presentations based on breastfeeding awareness week at child’s trust hospital.
  • Our students coordinated in the Healthy baby show by implementing assessment procedures.
  • School health program was conducted at Annai Veilankanni’s matriculation school and emphasized a sex education campaign.

COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING DEPARTMENT\

Community Health Nursing is the specialty that prepares the students to meet the ever-changing challenges of society. Community Health Nursing course orients the students to the concept of positive health and successful living and focuses on the families in the community and population groups with health risks.
The students identify and solve health problems in the community through innovative and cost-effective strategies of primary health care. This experience includes opportunities for participation in various National Health Programmes and an array of guided observational visits to various locations of public health importance. The Department regularly organizes household surveys, health projects, mass campaigns, home visits, school health programs, etc. in the villages.

PROGRAMMES / ACTIVITIES:

  • Our IV BSc (N), DGNM III year students conducted School health Programme in Jan’2019 at Annai Veilankanni’s matriculation School Nedungundrm.
  • Our students participated and did fieldwork for Leprosy screening for about 18 days under the Government Leprosy hospital Tambaram.

MENTAL HEALTH NURSING DEPARTMENT

The mental health nursing department is under experienced and dedicated faculty render quality education for the undergraduates students to assist them in developing expertise and in-depth understanding in the field of psychiatric nursing.

  • On 10.01.20 Pongal celebration was organized by the Dean, Institute of Mental Health where various nursing college students, doctors, nurses, and patients have participated and contributed their talents on that day. Cultural activities were conducted for patients which made patients enjoy the program.
  • Many chart exhibitions were presented by our III year students in the OPD department on various topics like Anger management, Home care management on epilepsy on 29.01.20 for the patients as well as for the relatives of the patient.
  • This gave our students an excellent opportunity to learn and disseminate the importance of mental health.

BRAMAH PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL

  • Our III year B.Sc (N) students conducted an awareness program on 11-3-2020 regarding “Prevention of mental illness” and other activities like yoga therapy, psychodrama, Attention, and Concentration related activities.
  • Students will be provided an opportunity to learn through different methods of teaching. Observational visits were arranged to gain knowledge by observation. We planned to go for a field visit to different areas.

In June’2019 Annai Veilankanni’s hospital was established by our respected Director Dr.Johny Christopher. He established for all our nursing students to gain their practical experience in our hospital and for the benefit of people in and around Perungalathur.

 

STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION REPORT

All students are enrolled as members of the Student Body Association at the institutional level. The student nurses association activities for this year commenced with the handing over ceremony in the presence of our respected Principal  Dr.K.Prema Sekar. General body meetings will be conducted on monthly basis to find out issues among students. We have conducted the SNA election and nominated the SNA Office Bearers for 2019-2020.

  • Student’s day was celebrated with the remembrance of Dr.A.p.J Abdul Kalam. Various competitions were held and the winners were awarded prizes.
  • All important days like Nurse’s Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, and Teacher’s day were celebrated accordingly
  • Cultural competitions were conducted by our Annai Veilankanni’s group of educational institutions
  • International Nurse’s day celebrations were arranged based on the theme. Various programs like mime, dance, and quiz competitions were conducted for the students.
  • It plays a major role in conducting all programs related to health & festival. Christmas, Pongal & Pooja celebrations were successfully celebrated by our SNA body.

OUR FUTURE PLAN

  1. Enhancement of seats to 100 for Bsc(N).
  2. Commencement of M.Sc(Nursing) program.
